This week I am "attending" an online conference, #TWTCon2019. These are my takeaways from the sessions that I was able to watch.
Creating Digital Notebooks to Promote Critical Thinking
Danielle Knight
- Make digital notebooks with drag and drop activities. Here are some ideas:
- Matching
- Timelines
- Cause/Effect
- Comparison
Digital Vocabulary Activities For All Content Areas
Julie Smith (The Techie Teacher)
- Ways to practice vocabulary:
- Create memes/posters
- Create or curate gifs
- Create a digital dictionary
- Use the slides randomizer extension to randomize digital flashcards (only on Chrome)
Noteworthy Notetaking
Lisa Johnson
- Website
- Make online notebook templates in PowerPoint, KeyNote, or Google Slides
- Then export as a pdf
- Open in Notability
- Write away!
Decision Making with Live Data
Lynda Moore
- Make a slide deck with different types of questions
- Try to make questions that might show up on standardized tests to help with practice
- Drag and drop
- Highlight
- Multiple-choice
- Etc.
- In the slide deck, have your bitmoji linked to tips or a gif showing how to answer the question
- Using Google Forms for live data
- Student answers a question
- If wrong, they are redirected to a tutorial video and an opportunity to try it again
Giving All Students a Voice with Flipgrid
Krystal Plott
- Twitter @MissPlott
- Fliphunt
- Basically a scavenger hunt, but students post videos on Flipgrid to show that they have accomplished a task
- Can easily be content-based
- Can also use Flipgrid for sub plans, or to communicate with students while you're out (I really like this idea, as I'll be on maternity leave for a while this year and it will be nice to check in on National History Day progress!)
